Description

Sainsbury's So Organic free range turkeys area slower grown bronze breed, specially selected for a tasty succulent meat, rich in flavour. The birds are free to roam on British farms that meet organic standards of welfare. The traditional bronze turkey breed has darker feathers, which when plucked may leave coloured marks on the skin. This is natural and these will not effect the quality and will reduce in appearance upon cooking. So Organic. In harmony with nature.

Cooking instructions


Oven cook from chilled only. 190°C / Fan 170°C / Gas 5. 20 minutes per kg + 70 minutes
If freezing at home, defrost thoroughly in the refrigerator before cooking.

Before cooking: Refer to the weight label on the front of the bag for the specific roasting time. Preheat oven. Remove all packaging and the neck and the giblet pack from the neck flap or main body cavity. Place the turkey in a deep sided ovenproof roasting tin. Measure out 200ml of cold water and pour into the roasting tin around the turkey. Loosely cover the turkey with foil and place in the centre of the preheated oven.

During cooking: Spoon the juices in the bottom of the roasting tin over the bird to baste every 30 minutes and return to the oven. Remove the foil 30 minutes before the end of cooking, baste and return to the oven to allow the skin to become golden brown.

After cooking: Once cooked, remove the turkey from the oven, check product is piping hot and no pink colour remains. Cover with foil and leave to rest for 30-45 minutes before carving.

    Keep raw poultry separate from cooked foods.
    Use separate kitchen utensils and surfaces for raw poultry and cooked foods or wash them thoroughly in between use.
    Wash hands after handling raw poultry.
    Do not stuff the bird – the stuffing must be cooked separately.
    Always ensure product is piping hot throughout and the juices run clear when a skewer is inserted into the deepest part of the thigh.
    Must be cooked according to the cooking instructions.

Storage

For use by date: see front of pack.
Carefully follow storage instructions.
Do not exceed the use by date.
Keep Refrigerated at -2C to +4C.
Store uncooked meat covered and lower in the refrigerator than cooked meat.
Suitable for freezing. Freeze as soon as possible after purchase and always within the use by date. Once frozen use within 1 month. Once defrosted use within 24 hours. Do not refreeze once defrosted.
